Back to St Emlyn's Reception

An 11 year old boy presents to the ED after falling on an outstretched arm. He is complaining of pain at the wrist and has pain on palpation over the anatomical snuff box.

You decide that he requires a scaphoid series and send him round to X-ray. However, he is sent back to the ED by the radiographer with a postit note attached to the card stating:-

"We do not do scaphoid series for children under the age of 16, please send wrist X-ray request".

You sigh loudly as this is a regular occurence in your department and yet again go round to argue with the 1st year radiographer. After much debate and because you insist X-rays are taken.
