Back to St Emlyn's Reception

A 26 year old healthy female rings the ED for advice. She was bitten by a bat 6 weeks ago while on a boating holiday in Norfolk. She was fishing at night from the boat when a bat got caught on her hook. As she tried to free the bat she suffered repeated bites to her thumb. Knowing that the UK was free of rabies she was not unduly worried. She has now learned from a friend that a bat worker died in 2002 from rabies caused by a bat bite.

She is now very worried.

Should she be?
