It is now 45 minutes since Josh arrived in the ED.

As you are preparing to intubate and ventilate Josh he becomes bradycardic, suffers a respiratory arrest and then becomes asystolic.

Full APLS protocols of resuscitation for cardiac arrest are started but prove futile.

Josh is declared dead at 1320, one hour and 20 minutes after arriving in the department.

His parents and your resuscitation team are devastated.
