The glans was placed in a gallipot of sugar. The hygroscopic nature of the sugar partially reduced the oedema and allowed a less painful, more controlled reduction of the paraphimosis without resort to a surgical procedure.

Clearly, the patient, the parents and other clinical staff were a little surprised at the suggestion. An additional contribution to the tea and coffee fund should probably be made.
